MSS and Team Air Power provide high pressure nitrogen generation system for Duffy Stainless Steel’s laser cutting operation
Duffy Stainless Steel in Castlebar, County Mayo have recently added a new MSS NitroCube 1 high pressure nitrogen generation system to their laser cutting operation. Having used bundled gas cylinders to supply their fibre laser for years, Duffy Stainless decided that they needed to reduce costs and improve the operational efficiency of their high pressure nitrogen supply.
The system was supplied, installed and is maintained by Team Air Power, the MSS distributor for the island of Ireland who managed the project from the initial site survey through to commissioning and who now provide ongoing service support.

‘After experiencing high and variable pricing from our gas supplier together with safety concerns of repeatedly handling heavy and top heavy cylinder packs, we decided to explore alternatives. We found MSS Nitrogen as we were aware they had been specialising in high pressure nitrogen for laser cutting applications for a long time’.

‘MSS & Team Air Power visited our offices in Castlebar and provided us with a detailed and comprehensive analysis of our existing nitrogen costs together with a very useful return on investment estimate that made it very simple for us to see how the costs of owning an on-site generation system would compare with our existing cylinder pack gas supply.’
The NitroCube 1 system supplied provides high pressure nitrogen at 13m3/hour flow and 99.9975% purity which is ideal for high quality laser cutting, especially for larger volumes of stainless steel. The system features 288m3 of nitrogen storage at 300 bar pressure. All the latest generation MSS Nitrogen systems uses the very best components available today which combine to make each system super-efficient. Typically using 25-40% less energy to generate higher purity nitrogen than many other systems available. The latest system also features MSS’ unique touch screen control panel that allows remote system performance and status monitoring.
Brian comments further:
‘the MSS NitroCube has now proven itself to be even more economical than the original estimates provided and the return on investment has been well within our own expectations. We now don’t have to worry about nitrogen costs anymore on jobs or about running out of gas partway through sheet cutting work. We have also been able to purchase a new forklift as the previous model got damaged whilst lifting the heavy cylinder packs’
